Draco’s Secret

In a small valley surrounded by towering, snow-capped mountains, there lived a young dragon named Draco. Unlike the other dragons who soared through the skies with grace and confidence, Draco had a secret: he could not fly. Every time he tried, his wings would tremble, his heart would pound, and he would crash to the ground with a loud thud. The other dragons laughed kindly, but Draco could feel their pity.

Draco, the dragon who could not fly, gliding over the valley for the first time with Lily cheering him on.
The Dragon Who Could Not Fly

Draco spent most of his days wandering the valley, practicing little jumps and flaps. He would flap and jump, jump and flap, but never lift off. Despite his efforts, the sky seemed like an unreachable dream. Draco, the dragon who could not fly, often felt like he didn’t belong in the sky or the valley.

Meeting Lily

One sunny morning, as Draco sat on his favorite rock by the crystal-clear lake, he noticed a girl walking toward him. She was carrying a red backpack, her curly hair bouncing with every step.

“Hi there!” she called, waving enthusiastically.

Draco blinked. Humans rarely came to the valley. “Hello,” he replied cautiously. “Who are you?”

“I’m Lily,” she said with a grin. “And you must be Draco, the famous dragon who guards the valley.”

Draco blushed, his green scales shimmering in the sunlight. “Famous?”

“Of course!” said Lily, sitting down beside him. “Everyone in the village talks about the brave dragon who keeps us safe.”

Draco’s chest swelled with pride, but then he sighed. “I’m not very brave. I can’t even fly.”

Lily tilted her head. “You can’t? Why not?”

Draco hesitated. “I… I’m afraid of heights,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Afraid of heights?” Lily repeated. “But you’re a dragon!”

“I know,” said Draco, his wings drooping. “I’ve tried so many times, but I just can’t do it.”

Lily thought for a moment, then smiled. “Maybe you need a friend to help you. Let’s figure this out together! Draco, the dragon who could not fly, might just need a little push.”

The First Attempt

The next day, Lily arrived with a plan. “Okay, Draco, let’s start small. Try flapping your wings while standing on the ground.”

Draco spread his wings wide and began flapping. The wind they created ruffled Lily’s hair and sent leaves flying.

“That’s great!” Lily cheered. “Now jump while you flap!”

Draco bent his knees and leapt into the air, flapping as hard as he could. For a moment, he hovered a few inches off the ground before landing with a soft thud.

“You did it!” Lily exclaimed.

Draco smiled shyly. “It’s not much, but it’s a start.”

Draco, the dragon who could not fly, began to feel a spark of hope.

The Cliff Challenge

After weeks of practice, Lily decided it was time for a bigger challenge. She led Draco to a low cliff overlooking the valley.

“This is your next step,” she said. “Just jump and glide. I’ll be right here cheering you on.”

Draco looked down nervously. The cliff wasn’t very high, but it felt like the edge of the world.

“What if I fall?” he asked.

Lily placed a hand on his claw. “You’re strong, Draco. Even if you fall, you’ll pick yourself up and try again. That’s what makes you brave.”

Taking a deep breath, Draco stepped to the edge. He spread his wings, closed his eyes, and jumped. The wind rushed past him, and for a fleeting moment, he felt weightless. But fear took hold, and he folded his wings, tumbling into the soft grass below.

Lily ran down to him. “Are you okay?”

Draco nodded, tears in his eyes. “I failed.”

“You didn’t fail,” Lily said firmly. “You tried. That’s what matters.”

Draco, the dragon who could not fly, began to understand that falling wasn’t the same as failing.

The Big Leap

Over the next few months, Draco and Lily worked tirelessly. They tried different cliffs, practiced gliding, and even played games to help Draco feel more comfortable in the air. Slowly but surely, Draco’s confidence grew.

One day, Lily brought Draco to the highest peak in the valley. “This is it,” she said. “Today, you’re going to fly.”

Draco’s heart pounded. “What if I can’t?”

“You can,” Lily said with a smile. “I believe in you.”

Draco stepped to the edge of the peak. The valley stretched out below him, a patchwork of green fields and sparkling rivers. He took a deep breath, spread his wings, and jumped.

This time, he didn’t close his eyes. He felt the wind beneath his wings, lifting him higher and higher. He flapped, glided, and soared through the sky, laughter bubbling from his throat.

“I’m flying!” he shouted.

Lily jumped and cheered from the peak. “You did it, Draco! You’re flying!”

Draco looped and twirled in the air, feeling free and powerful. When he finally landed beside Lily, he was beaming.

“Thank you, Lily,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

“You did it all on your own,” Lily replied. “I just helped you see how brave you already are.”

From that day on, Draco was no longer the dragon who couldn’t fly. He became the dragon who soared higher than anyone else, a symbol of courage and determination for the entire valley. Draco, the dragon who could not fly, had finally found his wings.
